Hofbräu Hefe Weizen

Hofbräu

History

Back in 1602 Weissbier could only be brewed by ducal privilege. It was Munich’s first Hefe Weizen. Hofbräuhaus enjoyed this exclusive right for nearly 200 years, thus holding a monopoly on Weissbier in Bavaria.

But even without a monopoly, Hofbräu Hefe Weizen is a really special kind of beer. Characterized by its sparkling rich foam and distinguished by its unforgettable refreshing and fruity taste. It is brewed according to an ancient tradition and offers an alcoholic content of approximately 5.1% by volume. Savor the pure, refreshing enjoyment!

FOR OVER 400 YEARS A CLASSIC FAVORITE!

What to expect:

Pour: Pours a bright and very hazy golden orange with lots of rising bubbles. Big four fingers of white head with good retention. Leaves some nice lacing around the glass.

Aroma: A fairly sweet aroma. Wheat grains, yeast, and bready malts. Hints of banana, hay, bubblegum, lemon, and orange along with a solid bready biscuit presence. A little bit of a clove and pepper like spice. Light noble hops. Also a little bit of that skunk smell from the green bottle.

Smell: Notes of lemony citrus. A touch of banana. Some wheat and coriander. A light bit of pepper and some other spices. Smells fruity and fresh. Well balanced.

Taste: Nice bready taste from wheat grains, malts, and yeast. Notes of bananas, lemon, bubblegum, hay, and orange peel. Some light clove spices. Hop presence is very subdued. Moderately sweet taste with some nice fruit esters. Light but solid taste you expect from the style.

Mouth Feel: Fairly light body with a moderate amount of carbonation. Creamy, crisp, and somewhat dry. Very smooth.

Drinkability: A beer that is excellent for a warm day. Very refreshing and easy to drink. A very nice German treat. A pretty solid take on the style. Well balanced with some nice esters.

Style: Top-fermented Wheat Beer – Hefe Weizen
